Black Death and Covid-19

After watching a documentary and listening to podcast, answer the following questions. 500 word min. But longer looks better.

In some ways a comparison of the Black Death to Covid-19 seems silly.
The plague after all was far more contagious and the mortality rate MUCH greater than we see with this virus.
However there are important parallels that I think warrant further consideration.  The economic catastrophe brought on by the plague is certainly noteworthy. 
The plague also created a strong sense of nationalist fervor and anti-semitism.  There was a fear factor that was almost as deadly as the virus itself.
Keep these things in mind this week as we dive into the conversation.  After reading Chapter 11, please watch the following video:

Now answer the following questions:
1.  Keeping aside the actual numbers, (remember these viruses have two very different mortality rates) how do you think that we have handled the coranavirus compared with Europe’s handling of the black death?  Have we done better or worse?
2.  Do you think Covid-19 will lead to a rebirth of sorts as happened with the Renaissance in Europe?  What could this look like in 2021, 22…etc…
3.  In Europe during the outbreak Jews were blamed for the virus and were widely targeted as a result.  Do you see any similar racism or xenophobia associated with Covid-19.
4.  Both the black death and Covid have had big impacts on how we do things in society….what about our current culture?  Artwork, (to include songs and writings) reflected well the horror of the black death.  Name something from today’s pop culture (movies, TV, music) that could be said to reflect what we are going through.
