For each passage/image provide an analysis of the following aspects:

Authorship

Who wrote the passage/created the object?
How does this affect the way we read the passage/view the object?

Time

When was this passage written/object created?

If it is a passage, what time period is the text set in?

How does this affect the way we read the passage/view the object?

Context

How does this relate to the work as a whole?
If it is an object, how does it relate to its setting?

e. if the picture is of the Parthenon, how does it relate to the city of Athens?

Significance

This is the most crucial aspect of your commentary
How does the passage/object relate to the wider themes of Classical Mythology we have discussed?
Why should we care about this passage/object?

Tips:

Avoid just summarizing what is in the passage
Stay on topic and avoid digression

If what you are saying does not relate directly back to the passage/object you are analyzing, you should not be writing it

Problematize the passage/object

Author bias

If a story is being translated by a foreigner/non-believer how does this affect our understanding?

Source bias

How does an author create their version of a myth? What sources might they be using?
