Contemporary Horror Film

For my final paper I am going to discuss about the abjection and the final girl theory in the movie Hush. The reason is because I think abjection is one of the most important element in horror films. It creates the gross to discomfort people by showing the disgust and the unbearable visual effects in horror films. It also can create the sense of pain in which help sublime the audience. Pain is the strongest emotion, it is stronger than joy. So the main purpose of a horror film is to make people scared. The abjection is a good way to deliver the sense of fear. In the movie Hush, there is not many abjections in the movie. The stand out one is when Maddie sees the dead body of her friend and make her realize that there is a killer around her. The final girl theory is one of my most interested topic in this class. Not only because the female masculine under the male-dominant directors in the industry, but also how Carol discussed about the meaning behind the final girl in horror films in her book. I find it interesting about her depiction on how the final girl in slasher films constitutes a powerful source of identification for the slasher film’s primarily adolescent male audiences and how slasher films tend to have gendered audiences. I am going to discuss them in my paper focusing on the final girl in the movie Hush. How Maddie becomes the final girl. And I am going to discuss her disability of not hearing in the movie. How the disability put her in trouble and how it helps her survive.
