Watch each of the videos below regarding Behaviorism, Cognitivism, and Constructivism
Then read the scenario provided.  Think like a behaviorist, cognitivist, and a constructivist to formulate your thoughts.
For your submission, list each of the learning theories (behaviorism, cognitivism constructivism).  Then explain what you think each of the theorists may do with the given situation.  For example, what would a constructivist possibly do if your 2nd graders were consistently confusing insects with spiders.  Well, a constructivist may….

Another View of Vygotsky
The Peter Principle was developed by the educational theorist Laurence Peter.  Peter wrote the best selling book, “The Peter Principle”.  Originally the book was supposed to be a satirical view on how people are promoted in organizations but it actually ended up gaining popularity because it made some valid points.   While not strictly a learning theory, the Peter Principle does have some crossover into the classroom and, specifically, can be connected to Vygotsky’s ZPD.  His principle primarily deals with levels of competence.  Understanding the levels can support a teacher’s long-term planning strategy when thinking about how students make progress through the content.

Look at the graphic below.  It is another way to view the ZPD.  In what way?  Write a brief explanation of how the graphic explains the ZPD.  Then, give a personal example of a skill in which you had to go through each of these phases.  Discuss a skill in which you had to master at an age you can remember.  For example, don’t discuss your experiences at learning to read.  Describe your experience for something like, “learning to stain furniture”, for example.  Be descriptive in how you felt at each stage of the process.  Finally, relate your experience to a student in your future class.  How will understanding this affect your instructional delivery?
