Historiography Paper

Choose a topic from the four offered.
Your paper will require EIGHT secondary sources
They will come from FOUR separate decades (i.e. two from the 60s, two from the 80s, two from the early 200s, two from the last ten years). The only required decade is the most recent.
Academic secondary sources will most likely come from an academic journal, but it could also come from a book published by an academic press (you will be given more information on what constitutes an “academic” source).
The goal of the paper is to describe how historians have written about a topic and how the work of historians has changed over the years.

Consider these questions:

What angle of the topic do the authors choose to pursue? Are some angles more accepted at different times?
Where do they get their research? Does that change?
Can you tell what might be going on in the United States by the tone of  the articles?
Is something left out (this is more of a feeling. Do you sense the author is holding back?)?
Does the language change over time? How?
Do you think that the intended audience changes?
Do you feel like the authors are responding to other academics (you don’t have to know who. Again, its more of a feeling)?

I will give you ONE early work and ONE recent work to get you started (attached above).
The paper must be at least 1000 words, in Chicago format, with footnotes.

Topic One:
The American Revolution
Topic Two
The War of 1812
Topic Three
Slavery in the Antebellum South
Topic Four
The War with Mexico
