HRD 3120 Week One Discussion

Watch the TED Talk above. Using your readings this week as a guide, apply what you’ve learned in the text by answering the following discussion questions (include references to textbook whenever applicable). What I’m looking for is evidence that you’ve read the text, that you understand the basic principles presented, and that you are able to apply them into relevant context:
1) Refer to the list of promises and pitfalls of e-learning in your text (pages 14-19). Based on your experience and the e-courses you have taken, which of the promises and pitfalls of e-learning have you seen? Give examples. Furthermore, what do you think has been a barrier to realizing more promises of e-learning?
2) A student in Peter Norvig’s MOOC noted, “This class felt like sitting in a bar with a very smart friend, who’s explaining something you haven’t grasped, but about to” and that’s exactly what he was aiming for. Referring to Table 2.3 in your text (page 39), what are the techniques that Norvig used in his MOOC to achieve each of those goals?
3) Summarize the four key learning processes that need to happen in order for a learner to learn from e-lessons effectively.
Post your original responses to the weekly discussion questions by Wed of each week, and from Thurs to Sun, engage in discussion with your classmates by reading, reviewing, and replying to at least 2 other classmates’ responses.
