Midterm Research Paper

Develop a research question about this topic. Your research question should focus on something specific and narrow enough that you can investigate it in four pages. Please see an example below of the difference between a vague and a specific research question.
Vague research question*: How does segregation impact education?
Specific research question**: How does residential segregation impact preK-12 school funding and related educational opportunities in Wisconsin?
*In the vague research question, it is so broad that we don’t know a) what kind of segregation, b) what kind of education, or c) what kind of impact.
**In the specific research question, we define what kind of segregation (residential), what kind of education (preK-12), and what kind of impact (school funding and related opportunities).
3. Consider how your topic relates to systemic or institutional factors. Be specific about what those factors are and use your research to help you identify them.
Specific research question – institutional factors: Implied in the research question are several institutional or systemic factors – housing and residential segregation, school attendance and/or school districts, school funding, and educational opportunity. You would begin with your understanding of redlining and housing segregation as discussed earlier in the course. How does housing segregation impact a family’s economic, educational, and social mobility? How does that also relate to race? What does the data tell us?
