The article that I chose is titled Using analytics to manage QA and reduce laboratory errors. The article talks about management using laboratory/business analytics intelligence to determine ways to better manage the laboratory while allowing more time to focus on other laboratory issues. The authors all work for a company that provides performance analytics to laboratories, so the article will be a reference used in sales. They do obviously have a good understanding of the issues that many laboratories managers face, such as specimen defects, inappropriate test utilization and quality management compliance. The laboratory management, with the use of a laboratory management system, “can view all their test results and not only identify errors but also retrace their root cause, delivering actionable information to monitor and improve QA processes. Subsequently, this improves the quality of laboratory measurements and enables management to verify that all processes are operating to set standards of performance (Hawrylak, Joseph, Bickley, & Ziaugra, 2019).”
While the authors are focusing on laboratories specifically, their view toward performance analytics can be relative to other healthcare industries, such as radiology. Radiology management would have issues with specimen defects, inappropriate test utilization and quality management compliance.
What stood out to me was that this type of software is an absolute necessity for laboratories. Anything to do with healthcare is always put to a higher standard and a patient’s health is, or should be, the number one concern,
