1. The issue of ocean plastics is a serious global collective action problem, and one that disproportionately affects coastal communities like those on Vancouver Island. Choose two proposed international solutions (whether they would be enacted through international organizations, the private sphere, or individual actions) to this problem and explain them. What are some of the biggest challenges in enacting these solutions? Based on your research, what is the best of the two strategies to move forward on this issue?
Writing tips:
1)You are expected to make a LOGICAL and COMPELLING argument. Structure your papers in a basic way: a) an introduction which includes a thesis statement; b) a main body which covers your research material and presents your main points; and c) a conclusion that presents your overall argument and summarizes what you said in the main body.
2. This essay requires a minimum of 5 sources, 4 of which must come from recognized scholarly journals or books. While you can use assigned class readings in your papers, they will not be considered in the final source count. In addition, introductory textbooks (for Political Science, Sociology, Canadian Politics, or any other topic) can be used but will not be counted toward the final required source tally. Other sources that will not be accepted include: online or print dictionaries and encyclopedias, blogs, online study notes.
3. The sources you use should include diverse opinions on the subject. I dont want to see any papers in which all the sources are UN organizations, or all left-wing authors, or all members of right-wing think tanks, etc. Tip: if you find one really good article on a subject, you can search its bibliography for other sources.
4. To reiterate, as per the requirements outlined in the instructions, a minimum of 4 of the 5 required sources must be academic journals or books. This does not include the textbook, any other course textbook, online blogs, encyclopedias, Wikipedia, or any other non-peer reviewed academic sources. Well established newspapers, government, IGO, or legitimate NGO websites can be used for one of your required sources. But any further use of such sources, will not count toward the required 5 sources.
5. Each paper will be 3-5 pages long, double-spaced, Times New Roman, 12 Font. This does not include your title page, nor your bibliography. If you feel that you absolutely need a page or two extension of the page limit, please contact me.
6. Include page numbers.
7. You need to use parenthetical, MLA citation style. Please note: YOU NEED TO INCLUDE THE PAGE OR PARAGRAPH # DIRECTLY IN THE CITATION.
