Define and describe the pathophysiology and compensatory mechanisms of shock. (guide 400-500 words)

Describe and contrast the differences in the approach to the assessment and management of hypovolaemic/trauma shock as compared to septic shock. Explain how the differences in care are evolving. (guide 800-1000 words)

List as bullet points 2 changes you expect to see in the management of trauma shock and 2 changes you would expect to see in the management of septic shock over the next 3-5 years. (guide 100 words)

The written assignment is an exercise in literature review and critical appraisal, and how this applies to patient care. You will not be able to cover all new research and provide detailed background information within the word count. You should therefore prioritise what you see as important. In answering the question you are expected to have listened to the (relevant) lectures for this module, read the reading list and conducted your own literature search. This should include both guidelines and research papers. You should pick out 2-4 key papers, appraise these with reference to the question, and explain if these papers suggest deviation from current guidelines. Please offer your opinion on any research you present and its limitations. Your assignment must follow instructions outlined in the handbook for contents, formatting and layout.
