Assessment overview
You have been asked to write a report to the client based on the construction programme and the planning techniques used in the project given in assessment 1. You will be working as the head contractor’s project manager for this project. Please use the same project documents (e.g., network diagram, work breakdown structure, programmes, resource sheet, spreadsheets, etc.) produced in your group assessment to support this individual assessment. Please refer and cite current and relevant research articles, books, and other sources using APA referencing style where appropriate.
The main tasks expected in the assessments are:
1.     Review planning techniques
2.     Discuss and produce schedule-oriented information (e.g. critical task report, project overview report, resource status report, etc) using MS Project and Primavera
3.    Review and recommend digital technologies used in construction project planning
Important notes
§  You must use the given Assessment 2 template to write your report.
§  Keep a backup of all your work – you will not be given an extension if you lose your work, have your computer stolen/crashed.
§  Extensions to the due date for the assessment are only given for genuine reasons such as sickness or a family crisis, and the proof is required in the form of a medical certificate or family death notice. If there is no proof, then no extension will be given.
§  There is a 3 marks per day late penalty, and work submitted more than 7 days late will not receive any marks.
§  Plagiarism will be penalized. The report will go through Turnitin, which will check for any copied material. Avoid bulk quotes – write in your own words. Do not copy from other students. Do not lend your report file to anyone else. Where 2 student reports have identical material, both students will be penalized. If the report is plagiarised, the work will be given no marks, and the student may be reported for academic misconduct.
The report should include the following: 
Part A (10marks) – The Preliminaries containing the following:
§  Title page 
§  Statement of originality
§  Acknowledgments
§  Summary: a 300 words summary describing the objectives, method, main results, and recommendations.
§  Table of Contents 
§  List of illustrations – (Figures, Tables, and Charts, etc.) 
§  Abbreviations
Part B (80 marks) – The Main Body: Approximately 2500 words (between 2000 words to 3000 words)
§  Introduction (10 marks): Explain the importance of traditional (WBS, Network diagram, Gantt chart, etc) and modern planning techniques (computer software based-construction programmes) in construction project management.
§  Planning techniques (10 marks): Review four planning techniques (e.g., WBS, Network diagram, critical path, Gantt chart, etc.) used in your project. Explain why these planning techniques are best suited for your house extension project.
§  Schedule-oriented information (10 marks): Discuss how to schedule-oriented information (e.g. critical task report, project overview report, resource status report, etc) is produced and used for construction planning.
§  Producing reports (10 marks): Use the base programme to produce schedule-oriented information (e.g. critical task report, project overview report, resource status report, etc) for the critical activities. Explain the reports produced for the client.
§  Construction planning software (20 marks): Transfer the above critical activities and their resources and cost information into Primavera software. Using Primavera, produce schedule-oriented information (e.g. critical task report, project overview report, resource status report, etc) for the critical activities. Compare your results with the schedule-oriented information found in MS Project software.
§  Digital technologies (20 marks): Review and recommend four digital technologies that would be useful for monitoring and reviewing schedule-oriented information for this project.
Part C – Conclusion and report presentation (10 marks): Approximately 500 words (between 250 words to 750 words)
§  Conclusion: Explain the main findings, how the objectives were met, the impact of the findings on the client.
§  Report presentation: Follow the template provided, use APA referencing style, present the report with neat formatting and concise and relevant material.
