Header – Student’s name, date, course code Title – Name of Concert attended/observed Must be typed Font – Times New Roman, size 12 MLA Format In your first paragraph, give the concert name, date of performance, and location of performance. Provide a brief descriiption of music to be discussed: background of composer, composition, and instruments used. Give a professional critique of the music using terminology/observations discussed in your textbook Length: 750 words. If you are under word count, I will take the percentage of content submitted and use that as your base grade, then apply points deducted from our assignment rubric. Example: 450 word paper – 450/750 = 60%, minus additional rubric points = total assignment grade. References: If using outside sources other then your textbook, please include appropriate footnotes or a Works Cited page with in-paper references/quotations. Many symphony and opera companies have posted full recordings of past concerts OR recently live-streamed concerts in an attempt to pay their musicians during this time. These are great opportunities to witness world-class performances for free! Any performance/concert outside of this list requires prior approval from instructor. Remember that there are still requirements that apply, even though you are no longer attending a live performance. The group must be collegiate, semi-professional, or professional in nature. The group must be performing music related to our course. No contemporary music will be approved. The group should provide concert notes, giving you background information on the pieces performed. At the end of your paper, please provide a link to the concert you watched. Remember to include a Works Cited Page (MLA format) if you use resources other then your textbook. This is extremely important. By selecting a piece related to our course, you will be able to use your textbook to assist you in writing your paper. You absolutely may choose to use additional resources online, but you MUST cite these in your paper, and include a Works Cited page at the end of your paper to avoid point deductions. Remember that this is an opinion paper – don’t get too bogged down in the historical data or theoretical elements of the piece(s). I want to know how this piece makes you feel, if you like it (and why), if you hate it (and why), what does it remind you of, etc.
