This week you will be conducting a preference assessment. You must select one of the three methods we read in detail about this week (i.e., paired-stimulus/forced-choice, MSWO, OR free operant procedure). You can assess whatever stimuli you choose, and you can choose whomever you’d like to conduct the assessment with (e.g., a client, friend, partner, co-worker, spouse, relative, etc.). To earn full credit you are required to conduct both a preference assessment and describe how you would conduct a reinforcer assessment to determine if the items identified in the preference assessment function as reinforcers. Please answer the following questions using complete sentences.
As before, I highly recommend using the instructions as your template, and keeping the headings in your paper to be sure you answer all the questions. Historically, students have lost points for not fully answering all the questions outlined in the instructions below.
Which preference assessment method did you conduct (paired choice, MSWO, or free operant)? Who did you conduct the assessment with (specify your relationship to this individual)? What was your rationale for selecting this person to conduct this specific preference assessment (why did you select this method)? List the pre-requisite skills that were necessary to conduct the preference assessment. HINT: Make sure you review the readings and video lecture for this week to accurately respond to this question. Did the person you conducted the preference assessment with possess all of these pre-requisites? Where did you conduct the assessment? How long did the preference assessment take to complete? List the stimuli that were included in your assessment. How did you select these stimuli for inclusion in the assessment? HINT: You should not combine edible and tangible items in the same assessment! How did you prepare the stimuli for the assessment? Describe (in detail) what a trial looked like by answering all of the following questions: How did you present the stimuli? What was your operational definition of a “selection”? What was the consequence for a “selection”? How many trials did you conduct? How did you collect data?
